Perhaps more than any other female pop star, Britney Spears was the driving force of the return of teen pop in the late 90s. Britney Spears was not just a pop star she was a pop sensation. She sold millions of records, was a media fixture (both positive and negative). It seems wherever Britney Spears went her celebrity pop star power followed her. Britney Spears has always been somewhat of a controversial pop star from her very first video, dressed in a sexed-up Catholic school girl’s uniform, right down to wearing a nude colored outfit while performing onstage at the VMAs, she always knew had to swarm the media’s attention.

in Kentwood, Louisiana
her family knew by a young age the Britney was destined for pop star fame. Britney began performing as a singer and dancer at a young age. Spears auditioned for The New Mickey Mouse Club when she was just 8 years old. She was told she was too young. That didn’t stop her though. Three years later at age 11 she went back for a second audition and became part of the cast. From there Britney Spears jump started her pop star status.
At 15 Britney Spears landed a record deal with Jive Records. By the end of 1999, Britney’s first record came out. It rose to fame with hits like Baby One More Time. The single shot to the top of the Billboard charts and stayed there for six weeks. Her first album sold over 10 million copies. This was just the beginning of Britney’s pop star fame. When the hype of her first album finally started to die down she was set to release her second album, oops…I did it again. This sophomore album further increased Britney’s pop star status with hits like the title track and Lucky, Don’t Let Me Be the Last to Know and Stronger. During this time it was also confirmed the Britney Spears was dating ‘NSYNC member Justin Timberlake, further proving she was worth her pop star status.
Her third album did not do as well. Even though it included hits like, I’m Not a Girl and I’m a Slave 4U, the album only sold around 4 million copies. No worries though because of Britney Spears’ less then squeaky image her pop star status was still at the forefront. Her personal life brought more attention to the pop star then anything else, yet in 2004 she released another album, In the Zone. This again was not impressive to the critics, although it did include the mega hit, Toxic. It was no surprise that Britney Spears, was a little over head when it came to her personal life, yet she was still considered a top pop star.
As the pop star began a downward spiral, personally her Blackout album was released. While some of the tracts were impressive, it was lacking the star quality most were looking for. After a long battle Britney Spears reached the ultimate pop star status once again when she released her Circus album in 2008.
